Worried About Tooth Sensitivity?

Does eating ice cream or sipping hot coffee sometimes cause tooth pain? Or perhaps you experience pain when you brush or floss? You may have hypersensitivity or sensitive teeth. This usually happens at the gum line or the chewing surface of the teeth. Sensitivity happens when the gum tissue recedes around the tooth or when the enamel is worn away, resulting in the dentin becoming exposed.

Good news: sensitive teeth can be treated!

WHAT TO DO ABOUT SENSITIVE TEETH

Sensitive toothpaste

There are a lot of toothpastes out there that are designed specifically to address tooth sensitivity and exposed dentin. Specialized toothpastes work as small fillings, plugging up the microscopic channels in the dentin and reducing the amount of food or liquid that can break through those channels.

Mouthwash with fluoride

Fluoride helps to strengthen enamel and reduce bacteria which can be contributing to problems causing the sensitivity.

Pick the right toothbrush

Make sure you use a brush with soft bristles as too vigorous brushing with harder bristles can create problems. Remember: brushing harder IS NOT better!

Visit the dentist twice a year

The best way to avoid any dental problems is to have a professional evaluation reguraly. It’s also crucial in the fight against bacteria and plaque buildup that can cause sensitivity and other, more serious issues.

Brush and floss regularly

This is often the cure for a lot of dental-related problems. Make sure that you are brushing and flossing correctly and for the correct amount of time every night.
